Kathryn Heuzey

Kathryn Heuzey was born in 1949 and raised in Glen Cove, Long Island. She began her education at Skidmore College, where she received a Bachelors of Art degree in studio art. She continued her education at NYU, studying art therapy and completing a Masters degree. She studied painting at Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy (affiliated with Temple University) and privately with Schilli Maier. After completing her studies, she practiced art therapy at Hoch Northeast Nassau and Pilgrim State Hospital on Long Island. Heuzey’s work with art therapy had an important influence on her own work as an artist and as a teacher of art.

When first returning to Long Island in 1986, Heuzey was deeply inspired by a show at the Nassau County Museum of Fine Art called “Contemporary Naturalism.” This movement of art has also been referred to as Contemporary Realism. In her paintings and drawings, Ms. Heuzey works in a direct and naturalistic manner, drawing from the beauty of nature encountered in landscape, weather, people and things. She is especially interested in details and creating an intimacy that will touch her viewers.

Heuzey has traveled extensively to Italy, which has inspired many of her paintings. She and her husband reside in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island where they have raised their two children.
